چکیده

The interaction of vanadium with TiO2(110) surface was studied with metastable impact electron spectroscopy (MIES) and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) under ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) conditions. A strong interaction between vanadium and TiO2 is observed with the addition of the first vanadium layer. Adsorption and reaction of ethanol to ethylene were investigated with MIES, UPS and temperature programmed desorption (TPD) and found to be sensitive to the surface electronic structure. In particular the temperature of ethylene evolution decreased by 100 K with a change in the vanadium coverage from 0.5 to 5 ML.

Quasiparticle Level Alignment for Photocatalytic Interfaces.

Electronic level alignment at the interface between an adsorbed molecular layer and a semiconducting substrate determines the activity and efficiency of many photocatalytic materials. Standard density functional theory (DFT)-based methods have proven unable to provide a quantitative description of this level alignment. This requires a proper treatment of the anisotropic screening, necessitating...

Mg clusters on MgO surfaces: Characterization with metastable impact electron spectroscopy, ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy „HeI..., and temperature programmed desorption

MgO films ~2 nm thick! were grown on Mo and W substrates while metastable impact electron ~MIES! and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy ~UPS! ~HeI! spectra were collected in situ. Apart from the valence band emission no additional spectral features have been detected with electron spectroscopies. After exposing the oxide surface to Mg ~substrate temperature between 100 and 300 K! an additio...

Adsorption of benzene on Mo(100) and MgO(100)/Mo(100) studied by ultraviolet photoelectron and metastable impact electron spectroscopies

By employing metastable impact electron spectroscopy (MIES) and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) together with work-function measurements, three adsorption states of benzene have been identified on the clean Mo(100) surface at 100 K: a chemisorbed layer, a second physisorbed layer with the aromatic rings plane parallel to the surface, and at higher coverages, an adsorbed layer with ...

Characterization of surface defects on MgO thin films by ultraviolet photoelectron and metastable impact electron spectroscopies

Metastable impact electron spectroscopy ~MIES! and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy are used in this study to investigate low-defect and defective MgO~100! thin films. Unlike low-defect films, defective films exhibit a new spectroscopic feature located ;2 eV above the top of valence band. Exposing the defective film to oxygen quenches the emission of electrons from F centers created on th...
